The production supervisor will be responsible for the running of  production/assembly lines.You will be self-motivated with a drive for process improvements. You will be responsible for the performance of the production lines, supervise employees to achieve key business objectives of product quality, order fulfilment, labour efficiency, and health and safety along with coordinating with other departments in the plant. There will be a huge focus on quality, and customer satisfaction as well as the other responsibilities, duties and benefits. Previous production experience with a background in lean manufacturing is desired.

  • Oversee and supervise the performance on the production floor
  • Responsible for production workflow and KPI’s, driving process improvements alongside the operation’s team.
  • Hold daily PIT meetings to ensure Performance, Issues and Targets are monitored and addressed.
  • Meet with Operation’s weekly to report on KPI’s and production floor performance.
  • Drive and promote lean 6σ projects and methodology on the production floor
  • Managing and promote 5’s methodology on the production floor.
  • Cooperate with the technical team and share information across the organisation
  • Identify and implement process improvements using 5s and lean methodology across the production floor
  • Control a monitor stock using KANBAN and MRP system.
  • Purchasing of component from various suppliers
  • Ensure strict adherence to all Health and Safety Rules & Procedures

To oversee the day to day planning, co-ordination and control of the company’s production operations and order processing, ensuring desired quality, cost effectiveness and maximum efficiency levels are attained.


  • Knowledge of steel fabrication
  • Health & safety knowledge and training
  • 3 years experience in a management role in a technical production environment
  • Experience in managing people and dealing with customers
  • Experience of production planning & scheduling and costing of manufacturing
  • Computer literate in the use of MS Office Suite

  • Oversee of day to day production operations, incorporating production planning, scheduling, product processing and quality management in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Manage all reporting staff including organising of shift rotas, time & attendance, grievance and discipline procedures etc.
  • Assess the raw material and production staffing requirements and calculate the required production time ensuring maximum efficiency.
  • Process orders including the ordering of some materials and liaison with customers.
  • Develop and implement production targets, control production costs to budgeted limits, and devise systems to effectively manage work in progress levels and ensure proper material waste management.
    Manage costs and production costing and ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure effective production layout for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Provide technical and problem solving advice regarding materials, machinery and production systems, and provide “hands on” assistance with production as required.
  • Lead process improvement programs to ensure the effective implementation of those programmes that will best benefit the company (e.g. Lean Manufacturing techniques).
  • Assume responsibility for providing direction to the production team on a day to day basis including communication of company information, recruitment, selection and discipline/grievance, in conjunction with the Operations Director.
  • Review employee performance, identify training needs and develop and implement training programmes to meet their needs, particularly in relation to new or enhanced work methods or products.
  • Ensure all manufacturing is carried out in strict compliance with company ISO 9001 quality and CE requirements and that standards are continuously monitored and improved.
  • Ensure a high standard of customer service is provided.
  • Ensure required inspection of finished goods, investigation and analysis of customer complaints and returns.
  • Manage the logistical aspects of the company as required – e.g. organising of deliveries.
  • Ensure adherence to legislative Health & Safety requirements, ensuring effective shop floor housekeeping, maintenance of plant and equipment and required training of employees in accordance with regulations and company policy.
  • Develop and implement a total preventative maintenance programme and ensure that all equipment is maintained in accordance with safe working practices.
  • Provide regular information and reports as required to the Operations Director.
  • Work with other departments/ staff to assist in the development and introduction of new products.
  • Any other duties, within reason and capability, as agreed through consultation with the company Directors.

The Purpose:
Within the Engineering Team at Merit you will be a part of a dynamic and developing team who are working on projects and systems for multiple leading medical device products that have been acquired and developed out of our own R&D centre of excellence here in Galway. Our Engineers are directly involved in the development of innovative products for use in medical procedures. As the Engineering Manager you will lead a team of qualified, experienced, and energetic engineers and technicians of all levels to develop a world class Engineering Department.
Day to day:
* Create clarity and direction for roles and responsibilities for process engineering and technical support levels, ensuring structural alignment to the expectations and demands of the business
* Manage a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians in performing their respective responsibilities.
* Provide the leadership and drive to the successful roll out for all programs, incorporating good industrial engineering techniques for Target Deliverance of scrap and consumable cost reduction, increase in equipment availability and Problem Solving.
* Determine and drive improvement targets, meet and present the engineering metrics for all relevant performance goals.
* Establishes and supports a work environment of continuous improvement with close supervision of, and/or direct involvement in programs to develop & improve existing production / quality / performance.
* Determines appropriate staff levels for your team, participate in setting budgets, including wage increases and in job evaluation reviews.
* Engage with other stakeholders internally and establish service level agreements and set expectation and guidelines for the development of the group.
* Demonstrates and models through his / her management style and behaviour respect for our core values and a commitment to teamwork.
* Perform other related managerial tasks.
Your profile:
* Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree in relevant technical discipline.
* Work related experience of at least six years of which at least f years' experience is in the medical device manufacturing industry in a similar role, coupled with a proven track record in a leadership role.
* Lean six sigma knowledge (preferably to Green Belt certification or higher). Experience of applying Lean tools / techniques to improve business processes & performance.
