This is a stand alone role, reporting into the group H & S Manager.
Duties:
* Works with site management to develop, implement and maintain Health and Safety (H&S) practices, programmes and initiatives which contribute to reducing the risk of accidents at the plant.
* Co-ordinates the identification of workplace hazards and assessment of risks, advises management on appropriate control measures to eliminate, minimise or control these hazards.
* Actively participates in designing and delivering the Company H&S training programme in conjunction with HR and training advisors. Manage emergency planning, including responsibility for the emergency response team (ERT).
* Oversee all H&S accident/incident investigations and follow-up on close out of corrective actions.
* Conducts regular announced and unannounced Safety Inspections to ensure that all departments are complying with the terms of the Safety Statement. Maintain records and assists the appropriate manager in planning corrective action.
* Liaise with H&S committee, the Health and Safety Authority Officers and others as required and build strong working relationships in this regard.
* Point of contact for external auditors and bodies
* Responsible for the documentation control of H&S function
Do you have a formal Science degree coupled with a minimum of 2 years experience gained in a manufacturing facility (preferably food)
You will be a practical and proactive person who is able to communicate at all levels, training staff on acceptable H&S standards and introducing change.
You will have experience in risk assessments, managing training plans, accident management and document control.

Your new role
The role of the Health & Safety Adviser is the ownership of the health and safety function within the Probation Service within the Department. What you'll need to succeed
Candidates must have:
A qualification of at least level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Health & Safety or a relevant equivalent qualification;
Significant relevant experience in a safety role and knowledge of OHSAS 18001 standard;
Expert knowledge of Health and Safety statutory requirements, systems and processes ;
Demonstrated ability to interpret the law in the context of a large Government department ;
Demonstrated ability to implement and manage a health and safety management system;
Experience in conducting accident/incident investigations including maintaining accurate records and drawing up reports/risk assessments for management with recommendations for corrective actions;
Experience of communication /engaging with regulatory authorities;
Experience in inputting into Health and Safety Training courses and manuals for an organisation ;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Good interpersonal and team working skills, with a demonstrated ability to deal with management and staff at all levels both within the organisation and externally;
The ability to work under pressure including the ability to cope with the sometimes traumatic environment of emergency health and safety incidents;
Sound judgement, discipline, initiative, drive and energy and the ability to be decisive; Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, experience of working within a unionised environment is desirable,
The ability to work independently, capable of operating under own initiative and ability to motivate and support others; AND Possess a full, clean driving licence:

As the site Health and Safety Officer you will be responsible for operational onsite duties, implementing the company's Health and Safety policies and procedures including;
· Conducting tool box talks,
· Carrying out workplace inspections,

· Incident reporting and investigation,
· Collation of weekly site statistics/reports,
· Review of safety documentation,

The role is initially a 2-year Fixed Term Contract but with a view to permanency. The role will include responsible for an overall compliance in matters of Health & Safety in accordance with Company policy, DAA requirements and relevant statutory provisions. - Provide recommendations and assistance to Project Managers and Supervisors, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation and safe material or substance utilisation.
- Develop and deliver health and safety induction to staff and sub- contractors.
- Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, safe equipment operating techniques and fire prevention for job sites and office.
- Act as company point of contact on all project HSE matters for DAA representatives and their compliance staff.
