Due to continued growth our client is currently looking for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to be based Kildare.

ROLE:

To support the HSE manager on site ensuring it meets all legal requirements relating to health, safety, environmental and quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the HSEQ Department to ensure HSEQ Management System complies with Statutory and Client requirements.
  • Ensuring that record of statutory inspections are kept for all activities and plant/equipment.
  • Provide general support and assistance to the Health and Safety Manger.

  • Control, maintain and coordinate the induction and training register.
  • Support the wider management team with investigating accidents, incidents, high potential near misses or other significant events/issues. Ensuring that investigation close out actions plans are completed in the required time frame.
  • Giving general H&S advice to the site team as needed
  • Periodically review relevant safety signage across the Site
  • Making sure First Aiders are available, that an adequate quantity of First Aid supplies is in stock and that all relevant Certs are updated.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of the HSEQ ‘Theme of the Month’ programme.
  • Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Safety Management System, including administration, logging data, creating reports, tracking and pushing progress of the company’s behavioural safety programme.
  • Production of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)i.e. Incident, NCR and Near Miss Analysis.
  • Provide planning support and communication for the sites Health Control programmes i.e. health surveillance and monitoring.
  • Collecting and collating relevant information for inclusion in the Safety File and preparing for handover to the Client at the end of the project.

Your new company
Your new organisation are a Public Sector Body which is a department of the Government of Ireland.
They require a senior Health and Safety Professional to join them on a contractual basis for 12 months with the option of a permanent assignment within thereafter.
Your new role
The role of the Health & Safety Adviser is the ownership of the health and safety function within the Probation Service within the Department. The Health & Safety Adviser creates and implements health and safety policies in accordance with the relevant legislation and ensures that these policies are implemented appropriately by management and staff of the Department. Based primarily out of Dublin 7, there will be a requirement for travel as the Probation Service has offices located nationwide, Travel and Subsistence will be provided for Travel to offices around the country. A detailed list of key duties are listed below:
Administration of the Health and Safety management system. Upkeep of Health and Safety shared drive and databases. Assist in the developing, monitoring, implementing and auditing of Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. Assist Regional Managers in the development and revision of risk assessments. Recording and reporting of incidents as per statutory requirements. Maintenance of incident, accident and near miss register and development of statistics and reports. Incident investigation and follow-up. Coordination of Health and Safety Committees and ensure meetings are scheduled at prescribed intervals. Oversee and administrate statutory Health and Safety training requirements. Participation and involvement in Health and Safety meetings across the organisation's regional portfolio as required. Maintenance of Corrective Action Register. Liaising with & supporting Regional Managers as required to ensure that they have the necessary skills, knowledge and tools to implement the Health and Safety Management System requirements at each location. Supporting the Director of Corporate Services with regard to compliance and continuous improvement in Health and Safety standards by auditing and reviewing the Health and Safety management systems and programmes. Drive compliance and continuous improvement in Health and Safety performance through auditing and training. Travel to the Service's regional sites to conduct inspections, provide training and conduct risk assessments as required. Liaising with the State Claims Agency and participation in the SCA network
What you'll need to succeed
Candidates must have:
A qualification of at least level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Health & Safety or a relevant equivalent qualification;
Significant relevant experience in a safety role and knowledge of OHSAS 18001 standard;
Expert knowledge of Health and Safety statutory requirements, systems and processes ;
Demonstrated ability to interpret the law in the context of a large Government department ;
Demonstrated ability to implement and manage a health and safety management system;
Experience in conducting accident/incident investigations including maintaining accurate records and drawing up reports/risk assessments for management with recommendations for corrective actions;
Experience of communication /engaging with regulatory authorities;
Experience in inputting into Health and Safety Training courses and manuals for an organisation ;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Good interpersonal and team working skills, with a demonstrated ability to deal with management and staff at all levels both within the organisation and externally;
The ability to work under pressure including the ability to cope with the sometimes traumatic environment of emergency health and safety incidents;
Sound judgement, discipline, initiative, drive and energy and the ability to be decisive; Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, experience of working within a unionised environment is desirable,
The ability to work independently, capable of operating under own initiative and ability to motivate and support others; AND Possess a full, clean driving licence:
