We are hiring a Senior Medical Scientist-Microbiology for our Hospital in Cork, Ireland.

 Responsibilities 
  • Participate in the future development of a Laboratory Service that supports the needs of healthcare professionals and their patients and is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the Laboratory.
  • Take part in the clinical microbiology diagnostic service, in collaboration with Consultant Microbiologists and Laboratory Management team, to ensure patient results are delivered to the highest standard in a timely manner. 
  • Participate and discharge duties required to provide operational services within a multi-disciplinary laboratory/team. 
  • Maintain professional competency to work in accordance with the laboratory management system and act impartially and ethically in the discharge of duties. 
  • Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient information.
  • Discharge duties in accordance with laboratory policies and be responsible for the quality of that work. 
  • Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities within the organisation.
  • Encourage professional development of staff, through promoting self-learning, formal courses, or formal and/or informal on the job training. 
  • Develop, update and review policies, procedures and guidelines for the department. 
  • Promote good communication within the team. 
  • Participate in developing and leading the introduction of new ideas and methods aligned to strategic objectives of the organisation.


Requirements

  • Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree or equivalent
  • CORU-registered Medical Scientist
  • Candidates must be Irish / UK and Portugal educated
  • Eligible for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine 
  • Evidence of current technical competence and CPD in Microbiology 
  • Experience of ISO15189 (essential) and JCI hospital accreditation (desirable) 
  • Have a minimum of 4 years experience as a Medical Scientist
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient-centered and can-do approach
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and collaborative
  • Team player who is also able to work on their own inititaive
