Details of Post :

The Safeguarding & Protection Team comes under the governance of Older Persons Social care group and is also a critical part of Disability and Older Persons' Services.

The Safeguarding & Protection Team deal with concerns of abuse in relation to vulnerable adults in line with HSE Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse – National Policy & Procedures, 2014. The Safeguarding & Protection Team provides services for people with a physical, sensory or intellectual disability or those over 65 in need of support. The Safeguarding team engage with the above client group where there is concern regarding abuse or exploitation by a third party.

The team has a role in:

· Promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults.

· Provide an advice and support resource to professionals and services (disability and nursing home services) having concerns regarding vulnerable adults.

· Receiving referrals and reports regarding adults at risk of abuse.

· Assessing indicators of abuse regarding adults at risk of abuse.

· Responding to reports of abuse regarding adults at risk of abuse.

· Developing, or supporting the development of interventions and safeguarding plans, and reviewing the effectiveness of such plans.

· Working collaboratively with relevant agencies in addressing issues impacting on the welfare of vulnerable adults.

· Contributing to the delivery of multiagency training.

· Maintaining records, statistics and reporting on the service.

The Safeguarding & Protection Team currently comprises of a Principal Social Worker, 2 Social Work Team Leaders, 5 Professionally Qualified Social Workers, one business manager and one administrative staff. The team covers the region of Laois/Offaly/Longford/Westmeath
