An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineering Technician - First Year Apprentice to join our team from September 2025. This is an exciting new initiative in conjunction with SOLAS and ATU offering you the opportunity to achieve the professional accreditation of a Higher Certificate (NFQ Level 6) in Civil Engineering, creating an alternative career path to the Civil Engineering profession.

 

Role:

As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will have the chance to work on a wide range of challenging projects from one off houses to large scale commercial, residential, education and industrial projects. You will develop an aptitude for producing Precast production drawings for various products including stairs, flooring, hollow-core, double wall, columns and beams. You will achieve Higher Certificate (NFQ Level 6) in Civil Engineering.

 

Apprenticeship Duration:

Higher Certificate in Civil Engineering - 2-year programme

 

How you will learn:

The Civil Engineering Apprenticeship is run in conjunction with SOLAS and ATU. The Apprentice is a full-time employee of Kilsaran Precast Ltd.

Apprentices attend:

An on-campus week at ATU at the commencement of the course

An on-campus day monthly for labs and workshops

Online lectures one day each week

Apprentices spend the remaining days working on the job to get hands-on experience of the modules they are studying. Apprentices will have a dedicated mentor to support their work-based learning.

 

Skills Required:

Excellent communication and organisation skills

The ability to manage and prioritise daily workload

Highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team

A strong work ethic

 

 

 

 

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Irish Leaving Certificate Requirements

A minimum of 5 grades O6/H7 or higher Leaving Certificate subjects.
