Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in post-qualification legal work, focusing on commercial transactions.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating different types of commercial agreements.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with cross-border transactions and international legal frameworks.
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws.
  • Understanding of the payments industry and related legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g., PSD3, eIDAS, PISA anti-money laundering regulations).
  • Excellent problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain legal issues clearly and concisely to non-legal stakeholders.

About the job

As Legal Counsel on the Payments team, you will be a key advisor on a wide range of commercial matters. You will leverage your skills in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements to support the growth and expansion of Google's payment offerings across Europe and beyond. This role offers the opportunity to work on legal issues in a changing global technology company.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret laws and other compliance obligations into requirements for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies to help mitigate risk.
  • Manage government and regulator discussions, agreements, and disclosures on compliance readiness efforts.
